Automakers make concept vehicles for a lot of reasons. Sometimes it is just to show off their chops; other times, they are testing a particular technology. Or they could be measuring the reaction of fans and the automotive press, thus testing the waters so to speak.
No matter the reason, the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards judged the year’s best concept vehicles, which include vehicles that have “have made the strongest impact in terms of automotive design, engineering and market responsiveness.” The jurors are composed of automotive journalists, who are men and women who do nothing but test drive and write about vehicles.
The Hyundai Santa Cruz was named the 2015 Concept Truck Of The Year. One juror said that the Santa Cruz is “what the light-truck category needs – loads of style for people without big loads.”
The Santa Cruz concept debuted earlier this year to almost all-around approval. The Cruz features all of the trappings of a capable crossover but with purposeful truck qualities as well. The focus with the Santa Cruz concept, according to a press release from Hyundai, was “functionality and flexibility in a compact, fun-to-drive package for a new breed of pickup truck buyers.”
At Riverhead Hyundai, we can’t wait for the release of the Santa Cruz!
