May is the perfect time of year to head outdoors and enjoy the world around you while you ride on your bike. That is why May is recognized as National Bike Month. If you’re looking for some new places to ride, here are some great bike trails in and around Riverhead, New York.
- Shelter Island. Nothing can quite match the beauty that is Shelter Island. Ride the ferry to the island and tour the tree-shaded roads and quaint hamlets. Try this 20 mile ride that crosses most of the island.
- Sears Bellows County Park. This beautiful park offers a 5-mile trail that is available for mountain biking as well as hiking. While you’re there, you can pack a picnic lunch, spend time fishing, or even head out on the lake.
- Town of Riverhead. Right here in Riverhead, there are numerous routes you can take on your bike. Some are dedicated paths and others are roads you will share with drivers. Use this map to find the path you want and amenities along the way.
- Montauk Point. For a long weekend ride, you can start in East Hampton and ride along the coast all the way to the Montauk Lighthouse. Stop in the village for lunch and enjoy the great community atmosphere.
