Long Island, New York is one of the most beautiful, scenic communities on the East Coast, known for both its opulent historic mansions and charming seaside hamlets. The area has its fair share of agricultural land and local farms as well. If you’re looking for something fun to do with the whole family, you can even visit one of many pick-your-own fruit farms or orchards in the region to bring home fresh, home-grown food.
Wickham’s Fruit Farm allows members of its “U-Pick Club” to come to the property and pick their own strawberries, cherries, raspberries, peaches, apples, and more on the farm’s 200 acres. The Davis Peach Farm also allows guests to pick their own peaches, nectarines, and late-season apples, but asks that visitors call ahead.
The Bruno Farmstand offers pick-your-own vegetable events starting in August, if you’re looking for something less sweet. Also, Lavender by the Bay even offers an alternative to fruits and veggies. Offering quality lavender from May through October, this farm is open on the weekends to guests looking to pick the beautiful, aromatic flower.
Pick-your-own fruit farms and orchards are an excellent way to spend a mild summer day among the natural beauty of Long Island. Not only are you getting out of the house and enjoying the weather, but you’re bringing home healthy ingredients, too!
